Carpet Repair Techniques
Carpet can
be rather expensive to replace, especially if you have a big
house. Many homeowners are unaware of the different
techniques that can be used to repair and maintain their
carpet. After learning some of these techniques, you do not
have to spend the extra money to replace your entire
carpet. Some carpet repair projects using these techniques
include:
|
-
Rippling – usually caused by high
humidity, may go away on its own. If it does not go
away, you may need to restretch your carpet.
Restreching your carpet protects your carpet from
wearing.
-
Snags – pieces that have been
pulled out of the carpet. These pieces should never be
pulled out, as the pulling may ruin your carpet.
Rather, they should be clipped off with sharp scissors.
-
Sprouting – when one tuft is
longer than the rest. The best way is to use sharp
scissors to trim the tuft to the same length as the
rest.
-
Stains – remove as much solid
material as you can. Water sponging over the
area will reduce the stain, but be careful not to spread
the stain and avoid getting the carpet too wet. Always
blot the stain with a clean white cloth and never rub
it. You may have to repeat this process a couple of
times before getting the stain out.
Some of
these carpet repair projects can be done on your own, but leaving
them to a carpet repairer will provide you with the
best results. They take the necessary steps to make your
old carpets look new.

Hiring a
Carpet Repairer
Before
hiring a professional, always check at least three
references. Make sure that some references are from at
least 6 months ago because problems take time to develop
with carpeting. Also, do not forget to ask the professional
to provide you a copy of their insurance policies. Having a
copy ensures that you are covered if any damages to your
home occur.
