Hardscaping Materials

 

Hardscaping is a great way to make your landscape stand out.  Materials such as brick, stone, tile and wood are used in a hardscaping project to accommodate with your landscape design. Deciding on the type you want to use for your landscape will depend on the style you choose for your outdoor living space.  The following is a list of materials you can use for your hardscaping project: 

 

Brick

  • Material that is made from molded clay.  Brick provides a warmer appearance and is maintenance free.  Due to its size, brick can be used in a number of patterns.

Stone

  • Cobblestone – is generally round and flat.  It is commonly used to provide textural contrast.

  • Fieldstone – a naturally non-toxic material that is good for a naturalistic look.  They are generally not renewable and are extremely expensive to replace.  They are available in many shapes, sizes, and earth tone colors.

  • Flagstone – layered stone that can be split into thin slabs.  This type of stone can be cut into many different shapes and used to make many different patterns.  Due to its relatively smooth surface, it can be used in many formal and naturalized settings.

Pavers

  • Concrete pavers – come in many shapes, patterns and colors that allow for creative usage.  The beauty of pavers can add value and visual appeal to property.  It can also be purchased at a low cost and requires little to no maintenance.

  • Interlocking pavers – are good for adding color, style, and patterns to your hardscape.  They provide a durable and long lasting surface.  Interlocking pavers are easy to repair and replace, have long life designs, and have slip resistant surfaces.

Tile 

  • Ceramic – are generally inexpensive but are not strong.

  • Porcelain – are safe from saltwater and chlorine and resistant from losing color over a period of time.  This material must be installed on a hard, smooth base and can be very slippery when wet.
