Looking to improve your curb
appeal? Siding can increase the overall appearance of
your home, while protecting it from different weather
conditions from the exterior. Since there are
many different types and styles, deciding on which type
works best for your home can be difficult. You will
have to do a bit of research to discover the advantages and
disadvantages of each. Here is a list of the types of siding material you can choose from:
Wooden Siding:
Clapboard –
is one of the most common types of wood siding.
Usually consists of long, horizontal boards overlapping
each other. This type of material requires
constant sanding and painting to keep it in good
condition.
Planks – are
excellent insulators and protect from moisture, but may
need to be treated each year.
Plywood –
are inexpensive and easy to install. This type of wood
is susceptible to termite damage and may rot easily.
Shingles –
are good insulators and easy to use. They go up
faster than other wood composites, but begin to warp
after a few years of installation. They can be
treated to lengthen their lifespan.
Shakes – are
good insulators and provide a more rustic look.
Like shingles, they will warp after a few years. |
